New Jersey HVAC Technician Schools

What is a HVAC Technician?

Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) technicians are needed in New Jersey. Homes, office buildings, hospitals, and warehouses all need people to install and maintain their HVAC systems.

The technician must be able to work on all the components of the system. Technicians have to be able to diagnose and correct any problems. Technicians may want to specialize in installing, maintenance, or they can specialize in one element of the HVAC system. Technicians can work independently running their own business or be part of a larger company.

HVAC technicians must be able to read blueprints and specifications so they can install supply lines, pumps, motors, or other HVAC parts.

Since there are various types of HVAC systems, there is no such thing as a normal work week. HVAC technicians are especially in demand during the summer and winter months when systems are constantly breaking down and need to be replaced or repaired.

Employment outlook

The outlook for job growth for HVAC technicians is good. According to the United States Labor Dept. demand for HVAC technicians will grow by 32% in 2012. As the population grows and new buildings go up they all will need climate control systems. As with any technology the future will bring more complex HVAC systems and emphasis on improving the quality of indoor air. Old systems will need to be replaced by more energy efficient and energy saving systems.

With the complexity of HVAC systems, learning on the job is not really an option. Employers and customers want qualified people working on their systems. Starting a career can happen in as little as two years after starting classes.
